Fissure, 2014

Fissure is a site specific installation created for the Market Street temporary location of Root Division Gallery in San Francisco. As an old store front, there were many two foot deep insets in the walls throughout the space. This installation fully covers one of these insets. The thin opening in the center of the sculpture seems to recede deep into the wall and disappear into the darkness. Two large subwoofers which create sound waves that are below audible hearing were placed inside the wall before enclosing the space. The sculpture emanated a composition of low frequency sound which could be heard within the room but also felt within the body. The undulations of frequencies within the composition were designed to create an alternating sense of comfort and uneasiness in the room.
